Priorities of Turkmen-Russian partnership are under negotiation in Sochi

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov is meeting with President of the Russian Federation in Sochi.

The meeting focuses on priority issues of Turkmen-Russian partnership in its key areas in the context of implementing bilateral agreements and plans for the future.

Turkmenistan and Russia are strongly committed to the long-term partnership. This is evidenced by the solid legal framework established for bilateral relations. Last year’s summit talks in Ashgabat during the official visit by President Vladimir Putin to our country culminated in signing an extensive package of important documents, a worthy addition to the framework, aimed to enhance mutually beneficial relations across the whole spectrum of areas.

When it comes to trade-economic partnership, there is a wide field for more diversified, closer mutually rewarding relations, higher trade turnover, a broader range of goods, and enhanced business and investment activities.

The 2017-2019 Intergovernmental Program, a unique three-year roadmap, is also aimed to fully realize the potential of Turkmen-Russian economic cooperation and focused practically on all its areas, including trade, industry, the energy sector, agriculture, transport, high technologies, services, etc.

The energy sector is seen as a high-priority area of bilateral cooperation and is strategically important to the two states, which are the world’s leading power-producing countries with enormous hydrocarbon resources.
