Meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the CIS Secretary General

On the 10th of September 2026, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov had a meeting with Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Independent States Sergey Lebedev, who arrived in Turkmenistan to participate in the 111th meeting of the CIS Economic Council.

During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on current issues on the CIS agenda. Particular attention was paid to the practical implementation of the priorities of Turkmenistan’s chairmanship in the Commonwealth in 2026, as well as preparations for upcoming events at high and the highest levels.

The sides also discussed preparations for the meetings of the CIS Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs and the CIS Council of Heads of State, planned to be held on 7 and 9 October 2026, in the National Tourist Zone «Avaza». In this regard, organizational aspects of the upcoming high-level events and the content of their agendas were discussed.

The sides also considered further improvement of cooperation mechanisms within the Commonwealth, with particular attention to expanding practical cooperation in the areas of mutual interest.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to continuing constructive collaboration and joint efforts aimed at further strengthening multilateral cooperation within the CIS.
