MEETING WITH THE HEAD OF UNEP’S CENTRAL ASIA OFFICE HELD AT THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF TURKMENISTAN

On January 14, 2020, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan R. Meredov and the Head of the United Nations Environment Programme for Central Asia Office Ms.Aidai Kurmanova, who has arrived to the Turkmen capital to participate in the International Conference “Turkmenistan and International Organizations: Cooperation for Peace and Development.”

During the meeting, the parties discussed the main directions and prospects of cooperation on environmental protection, climate change, resource efficiency and the “green economy.”

The parties also focused on strengthening cooperation between the Office of the UN Environment Programme for Central Asia and Turkmenistan, in particular on the implementation of joint projects in the field of achieving Sustainable Development Goals.

During her visit to Turkmenistan, Ms.Aidai Kurmanova, Head of the United Nations Environment Programme for Central Asia Office, met with the Minister of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan, as well as the Director of the Caspian Sea Institute.
