President of Turkmenistan congratulates compatriots on the World Environment Day

“I congratulate on the World Environment Day! Nature is the source of life, and the ancestors learned to live in harmony with it. Over the centuries, the similar attitude to nature has gained a foothold in the traditions and customs of our people. Today, this heritage, in combination with the measures taken to address the global problems has been filled with new content”, says President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in his congratulatory address.

“The key goal of the state environmental policy is to ensure a favorable environment for life of our citizens, to carefully use natural resources, enrich and preserve nature for future generations, and establish fruitful regional and international cooperation in this area.

“Each state programme is aimed at further improving the social conditions of the Turkmen people, ensuring the dynamic development of all sectors of the economy, and creating environmentally friendly industries.

“Currently, the government carries out systematic work to ensure environmental well-being, and to comprehensively address the tasks identified in the National Strategy of Turkmenistan on Climate Change and the National Forest Programme. Effective work continues to improve the legislative framework in the field of environmental protection.

“The domestic and foreign policy of the independent Turkmen state in the field of environmental protection focuses on universal interests, one of the most important directions of which is to promote international efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

“Acceding dozens of United Nations conventions on environmental protection, our country has thoroughly addressed the tasks of the world community on the implementation of the SDGs. In this context, we cooperate with the UN Development Programme and the Environment Programme, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, the Global Environment Fund, the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia, the Society for International Cooperation of Germany and many other international and regional structures, and initiate new proposals to ensure environmental welfare.

“The UN adoption of a new international agreement on climate change, the Resolution “Cooperation between the United Nations and the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea”, as well as a number of agreements with the heads of the Caspian littoral states vividly prove the world community’s support to the initiatives put forward by independent Turkmenistan”, emphasizes the President of Turkmenistan.

In conclusion, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov wished compatriots good health, family well-being and great success in their work to the benefit of the country.
