Turkmenistan holds youth interregional Model United Nations
On October 27-29, 2020, first session of the Interregional Model United Nations (IR-MUN) took place virtually. Event was dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the United Nations and the 25th anniversary of the Permanent Neutrality of Turkmenistan.
The event was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan together with the Office of the UN Resident Coordinator in Ashgabat and the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia.
During this youth forum, devoted to the UN Day, participants reproduced the work of several United Nations bodies, in particular the General Assembly, the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and the Second Committee of the General Assembly.
IR-MUN was attended by more than 120 participants, in particular faculty members, students of 15 high-schools with specializations in diplomacy and international relations (academies, universities and institutes), as well as acting diplomats from 13 countries of Asia and Europe.
Within simulated plenary sessions and multilateral negotiations, young representatives conducted debates and consultations on issues related to the promotion of the principles of neutrality, strengthening the tools of preventive diplomacy and mediation, the development of sustainable transport and international health cooperation.
The conference participants expressed their readiness to continue the dialogue within the framework of this United Nations Model by organizing similar events.
Forum resulted in joint final documents and resolutions that have been agreed upon by the participants.
