MEETING OF THE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF TURKMENISTAN WITH THE AMBASSADOR OF ITALY
On November 16, 2020, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov had a meeting with the newly appointed Ambassador of Italy to Turkmenistan Luciano Galli.
At the beginning of the conversation, congratulating the Ambassador on his appointment to a responsible position, R. Meredov wished him success and new achievements in his mission aimed at developing the Turkmen-Italian cooperation.
The diplomats stressed the intense nature of the relationship at the high and highest levels. It was noted that fruitful and regular negotiations between the heads of states give a powerful impetus to the development and strengthening of mutually beneficial dialogue between the two countries. The visit of the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the Italian Republic in November of 2019 was a landmark event in the advancement of bilateral ties.
During the meeting, the diplomats discussed aspects of bilateral political dialogue, as well as the state and prospects for the development of relations between Turkmenistan and Italy in the economic, trade, investment and cultural-humanitarian spheres. The opportunities of expanding the legal base of cooperation, including the involvement of bilateral tools of collaboration were regarded.
The positive experience of interaction on international platforms, primarily the UN, was emphasized. The importance of mutual support for international undertakings and initiatives within the framework of authoritative platforms was noted.
Special attention at the meeting was paid to the issues of intensifying contacts in the cultural and humanitarian field. In this context, the need was expressed to intensify joint work to create a Cultural Dialogue and prepare a Roadmap between the Foreign Ministries of the two countries. A separate topic of discussion was the possibility of holding specialized exhibitions of Turkmenistan in Italy, as well as the opening of a Trade Representation Office in Milan.
During the constructive conversation, the productivity of cooperation with Italian companies including ENI, Leonardo and others was also noted. In this context, the parties expressed mutual interest in continuing the positive experience of holding business forums with the participation of leading companies of the two countries. The opportunities of expanding cooperation in the field of healthcare and space communication were considered.
During the meeting, Ambassador Luciano Galli presented copies of his credentials to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The parties expressed confidence in the continuation of a fruitful mutually beneficial partnership in all areas of mutual interest.
