NEGOTIATIONS BETWEEN THE PRESIDENTS OF TURKMENISTAN AND THE ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF IRAN

On June 15, 2022, high-level talks were held in the capital of the Islamic Republic of Iran, where President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov arrived on an official visit the day before.

After the official meeting ceremony and photographing against the background of national flags, the Presidents of the two countries met in a one-to-one format.

The agenda included key areas of interstate cooperation, opening up new opportunities for mutually beneficial efforts, as well as topical issues of regional and international politics.

As emphasized, our countries are fruitfully interacting in the political-diplomatic, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian fields, which is reflected in a number of interstate, intergovernmental and interdepartmental documents signed so far.

The interlocutors exchanged views on a wide range of partnership issues both in a bilateral format and within the framework of major authoritative organizations, and discussed topical issues of regional and international politics of mutual interest.

Further, the negotiations continued in an expanded format with the participation of members of the government delegations of Turkmenistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The transport and communications sector and the energy sector were named among the main areas of bilateral partnership. The strengthening of interrelations in these areas is intended to be facilitated by the effective use of the potential of the infrastructure formed in recent years.

Cooperation in the humanitarian sphere has been and remains an important area of ​​interstate dialogue.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, on behalf of the delegation of Turkmenistan, thanked the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Seyed Ebrahim Raisi, for the warm hospitality and favorable conditions for joint work.

Then the ceremony of signing bilateral documents took place.

To the applause of those present, Presidents Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Seyed Ebrahim Raisi signed the Joint Statement.

It should also be noted that within the framework of the visit, members of the Governmental delegation of Turkmenistan held meetings and negotiations with their Iranian counterparts in Tehran the day before, during which priority vectors of bilateral relations in various fields were discussed. As a result, a package of documents was signed.

At the end of the signing ceremony, the heads of state made brief statements to the press.

Expressing satisfaction with the results of the talks, which resulted in the signing of a solid package of bilateral documents, the Head of state expressed confidence that the implementation of the agreements reached would contribute to the expansion and strengthening of the interstate dialogue.

The President of the country also noted that he invited the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran to pay an official visit to Turkmenistan at any time convenient for him.

At the end of his speech, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov stressed that the goals of the current visit to Iran had been achieved, and addressed the fraternal Iranian people with wishes of happiness, well-being, peace and prosperity.

In the afternoon, the President of Turkmenistan met with the Chairman of the Islamic Consultative Council of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.

As emphasized in the conversation, which took place in a friendly, confidential atmosphere, our countries pay great attention to the development and strengthening of interstate dialogue.

Considering that inter-parliamentary cooperation makes a significant contribution to the progressive development of interstate dialogue, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov proposed to intensify partnership in this direction, in particular, through the systematic holding of Turkmen-Iranian inter-parliamentary meetings and establishing a mutual exchange of experience.

After the meeting, the cortege of the President of Turkmenistan headed to the Mehrabad International Airport, from where the Head of state left for his homeland.
