Current issues of Turkmen-American cooperation discussed at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan

On 25 November 2024, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and the US Senator from Montana, member of the US Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources Steve Daines.

During the meeting, the sides discussed a wide range of issues related to further strengthening of multifaceted ties between Turkmenistan and the United States. They discussed key aspects of partnership cooperation in political-diplomatic, trade-economic, cultural-humanitarian and other spheres.

The active dynamics of development of political ties at the highest state level was emphasized.

The parties noted the consistency of cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the U.S. State Department. In this context, the important role of regular political consultations between the external policy agencies was voiced.

In addition, the sides exchanged views on further deepening of bilateral economic cooperation.

In this regard, the parties underlined the effectiveness of the Turkmenistan-US Business Council, the successive meeting of which is scheduled to take place in December of curent year.  The sides reaffirmed the high efficiency of long-term cooperation with such leading US companies as General Electric, Boeing, John Deere, Caterpillar and others.

Along with the traditional areas of bilateral partnership, the parties considered new fields of cooperation, among which the financial and banking sector was noted.

During the conversation, the interlocutors also discussed current issues regarding the implementation of large-scale, long-term international energy projects initiated by Turkmenistan. Particular attention was paid to the projects implemented jointly with neighbouring countries.

At the end of the meeting, the sides agreed to continue political contacts.
