Turkmen National Team to Compete in 11 sports at 18th Asian Games

A conference hall of the National Sport and Tourism Institute has hosted an official send-off ceremony for the Turkmen national team heading to the capital of Indonesia, Jakarta, to participate in the 18th Asian Games (August 18 - September 2).

At the ceremony, senior officials of the Ministry of Sport and Youth Policy, National Sport and Tourism Institute, Democratic Party of Turkmenistan, Magtymguly Youth Organizations, and honorable elders offered their good wishes and words of encouragement to the athletes. 

The delegation of Turkmenistan to the Asian Games includes nearly one hundred participants – athletes, trainers, doctors, etc. Our country’s referees and judges will also officiate at the Games. 

The team of Turkmenistan will compete in 11 sports – sambo, weightlifting, boxing, jiu-jitsu, judo, Greco-Roman wrestling, freestyle wrestling, Kurash wrestling, swimming, three-on-three basketball, and athletics. 

The national team athletes assured that they would make every effort to achieve the best results. Recent wins by Turkmen judokas, sambo wrestlers, boxers and weightlifters give hope for their successful performance in Jakarta. 

There are only a few days left until the official opening of the 18th Asian Games, scheduled to be held in the cities of Jakarta and Palembang. Thousands of athletes, representatives of 40-plus teams from Asian countries, including Turkmenistan, will compete in 58 sports.
