TURKMENISTAN ADVOCATES STRENGTHENING CLOSER COOPERATION ON THE CIS PLATFORM
At the online meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the CIS member states on December 10, a constructive exchange of views took place on key issues of cooperation.
Speaking at the meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan noted that "closer coordination of interaction within the CIS with a clearly defined frequency and agenda is necessary." In this regard, the initiative of the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was highlighted to intensify interaction between the foreign affairs agencies of the countries of this format. It is noteworthy that, following the results of the current meeting, the Plan of multi-level inter-ministerial consultations within the framework of the Commonwealth of Independent States for 2021 was adopted.
The key vectors of Turkmenistan's foreign policy activities aimed at maintaining peace, stability and socio-economic growth in the region and beyond are also highlighted. R. Meredov stressed that Turkmenistan closely cooperates with the UN, practically in all main areas - "from security to gender equality issues, from environmental issues to protecting the rights of migrants."
In this regard, it is important to note the similarity of the positions of all CIS countries regarding the key role of the UN, acting as a unique legitimate platform on a global scale in the process of maintaining peace, security and sustainable development.
During the meeting, security issues, in particular information security, were also discussed. In this context, the commitment of Turkmenistan to further strengthen cooperation in the field of international information security was emphasized.
